The SAG Awards were last night and you might’ve missed them (like I almost did) if you didn’t know they were being streamed online! I was about an hour late to the show - I truly felt like Beyonce at the Grammys! This year we had a ton of memorable moments — from Jenna Ortega and Aubrey Plaza’s hilarious presenter bit, to the historic win from Michelle Yeoh from ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’ which completely dominated the Screen Actors Guild, truly such a momentous night! But now onto why you’re here...
My name is ✨Anferne✨ and here are the best dressed of the 2023 SAG Awards, according to me – a stylist.
Jenna Ortega in Vintage Versace (Fall 1994)
Let me just first say that I missed the Golden Globes and I’ll never forgive myself because Golden Globes Jenna Ortega LEFT NO CRUMBS. It was truly a pristine moment for Jenna - as was the SAG Awards! Jenna was styled by Enrique Melendez in a gorgeous Versace vintage moment. The gorgeous asymmetrical belted leather dress featured a plunge V-neckline and a daring slit! Jenna culminated her goth-glam look in Tiffany & Co. jewelry, and Jimmy Choo heels!
Zendaya in Custom Valentino
You all already know how I feel about Zendaya - there’s no one better! Her long-time stylist Law Roach sculpted Zendaya in a beyond-gorgeous rose-colored strapless bustier gown by Maison Valentino adorned with an overflow of silk-on-silk roses, because let's be honest anywhere Zendaya walks there must be rose petals at her feet! They finished the look with gorgeous jewels by Bulgari. I’ve said this once, and I’ll say it again; these two are a match made in fashion heaven. Oh, and if that wasn’t enough - the dress was specially designed for her by the creative director of Valentino, Pierpaolo Piccioli!
Angela Bassett in Custom Giambattista Valli
Angela Bassett and her stylist, Jennifer Austin, did the thing (sorry, I had to) in a gorgeous off-the-shoulder mermaid gown by Giambattista Valli with dramatic tulle additions. The joyful look was accompanied with gorgeous drop earrings by De Beers and a statement conch clutch by Judith Leiber!
Viola Davis in Valentino
Viola Davis, my Woman King (I'm ain’t sorry, no-no hell nah!) Viola, one of my red carpet consistent favorites, arrived in a vibrant yellow gown by Maison Valentino styled by Elizabeth Stewart. The gown was the picture of understated elegance with a gorgeous scalloped neckline and long sleeves. To add a touch of glam; our Woman King finished the look with Swarovski jewelry.
Eddie Redmayne in Saint Laurent
Eddie Redmayne has my heart, I love his work and I love his red-carpet style. For the SAG Awards, he opted for a gorgeous head-to-toe YSL look styled by Harry Lambert. The ensemble featured a pussy-bow blouse with high-waisted velvet trousers from look 1 of Anthony Vaccarello’s inaugural Yves Saint Laurent’s Fall/Winter 2023 collection (one of my favorite menswear collections this year.)
Mark Indelicato in Thierry Mugler Archive & Custom Calvin Klein
I’ve quickly made note of, and have become a fan of Mark Indelicato. Why you might ask? Because he’s literally everything I’m trying to be - an actor, fashion blogger, singer, photographer (okay, I just want to be a few of those things, but the point is why can’t I be everything I dream of?) Mark wore a Thierry Mugler ruffle top from the archives of Aralda Vintage, custom Calvin Klein suiting, Carel Paris footwear, and jewelry by JustDesi. One of my top looks of the night, styled by the iconic James Gallagher.
Amanda Seyfried in Prada
Amanda Seyfried is one of my favorite ladies in Hollywood, she always has this serene vibe about her. She opted for some gorgeous green a la Prada. Styled by Elizabeth Stewart, the look featured a mod-cut dress (with pockets), a halter neckline, and an attached train. Cartier jewelry complimented the look.
Cara Delevingne in Carolina Herrera
Cara was a VISION at the SAG Awards thanks to the sublime styling of Rob Zangardi. The look featured a rose-adorned fitted jumpsuit underneath a full-length overcoat dress from Carolina Herrera by Wes Gordon! To finish the look with a deadly kiss, what better way than with De Beers diamonds?
Emily Blunt in Oscar De La Renta
The only Emily that should’ve been in Paris, Emily (Charlton) Blunt, was in a primavera mood at the SAG Awards red carpet in Oscar De La Renta, styled by Jessica Paster. The evening gown featured a square neckline, peek-a-boo detailing, and floral embroidery cascading down the length of the dress, finishing the look was a gorgeous Bulgari serpent necklace.
Andrew Garfield in Custom Valentino
I don't know what it is about Andrew Garfield always looking right (and ready to act up), but I’m willing to bet it has something to do with that unbuttoned shirt. Styled by Warren Alfie Baker, the actor wore a custom midnight-blue tailored suit featuring a double-breasted closure on the jacket by Maison Valentino, David Yurman jewelry, an Omega watch (because a gentleman always wears a watch), and Santoni footwear. It’s no surprise the gorls were swooning… I was swooning too, shiet!
Aubrey Plaza in Michael Kors
I want to go around being morbidly facetious with Aubrey Plaza, don’t you? I can’t get enough of her, so don’t be a betch and let her have her moment on my list! Aubrey was styled by Jessica Paster in a saucy number by Michael Kors. The dress featured a criss-cross neckline with thick straps, a slit at the center of the skirt, and saucy cut-out detailing in bronze paillette fabric. The look was complete with Mouwad jewels fit for a queen (because they make the Miss Universe crowns), and Jimmy Choo heels!
Quinta Brunson in Jean-Louis Sabaji
Quinta Brunson, adds another core memory to her career not only with last night’s win, but because this is the second time the mutli-faceted actress graces my best dressed list! Quinta opted for a stunning Jean-Louis Sabaji gown styled by Bryon Javar. The dress featured a scalloped seashell bodice and a fully-beaded fringe skirt. The look was completed with Neil Lane jewlery and Guiseppe Zanotti heels.
Julia Garner in Custom Gucci
Julia Garner might not have time for this, or even me. But I do! Julia arrived to the SAG awards in a custom gown from Gucci styled by Elizabeth Saltzman. Julia’s striking bronzed look featured a shell-bra neckline with pleated detailing, a long train, and a jeweled chainmail underlayer. The look kept giving with Irene Neuwirth jewelry.
Honorable Mentions…
Before my grand reveal, I want to mention the artists that came so close to gracing my list: Kathryn Newton in Carolina Herrera styled by Molly Dickson, Rooney Mara in Alexander McQueen styled by Ryan Hastings, Meghann Fahy in Ralph Lauren styled by Thomas Carter Phillips, Li Jun Li in Fendi styled by Jessica Paster, Amy Poehler in Roland Mouret styled by Karla Welch, Ana De Armas in custom Louis Vuitton styled by Samantha McMillen, Diego Calva in Gucci styled by Ilaria Urbinati, Michelle Yeoh in Schiaparelli styled by Jordan Johnson Chung, Adam Dimarco in Dior, and Jenny Slate in Zuhair Murad both styled by Monty Jackson.
And The Actor Goes To…
Drumroll, please…
As if there would be another choice for me – Zendaya in custom Valentino styled by the incomparable Law Roach! We weren’t blessed with just ONE look, oh no, we were blessed with two! On stage Zendaya switched out her custom, and exclusively made Valentino gown for a more elegantly sensual moment in a strapless bustier Giorgio Armani gown featuring asymmetrical detailing, and a midriff cut-out. They finished the serve with, you guessed it, Bulgari jewels.
Que perra mi Zendaya!
