So the Grammys were last night but first, I’d like to address the elephant in the room. And unlike Mikayla Nogueira and her inability to address her recent scandal, I’m here to actually address mine…
HA! You thought! I don’t owe any explanations! Things happen, life happens, big moves that excite you, test you, invigorate you, inspire you, motivate you, make you cry, stress you out and trigger hair loss and a flop skin era, these things happen okay?! –
Now, with that out of the way, the Grammys were last night and even though I have ongoing beef with them for many reasons (Britney and non-Britney related), I still watched along and made my list of best looks. Not only was it a LEGENDARY night for Beyoncé, but it was also a legendary night for these starlets that landed themselves on my “best dressed” list (buckle up; it’s a long one.)
Lizzo in custom Dolce & Gabbana
At this point, I’m going to start calling Lizzo MOTHER. Because that’s what she is to me when it comes to serving on the red carpet for the big girls and gays. Spring done sprung because Lizzo said so. The multi-faceted, multi-talented songstress and her stylist Patti Wilson stunned in this custom Dolce & Gabbana spring-awakening-reveal moment. Lizzo entered the chat in a gorgeous cape with silk embroidered florals, revealing a sweetheart neckline, and silk-corsetted gown with Swarovski striping detail.
Doja Cat in Versace
Miss Doja - first of all, I’m still recovering from your looks for Paris fashion week, and now we can add another week of recovery after you and stylist Brett Alan Nelson devoured at the Grammys with this audibly-tasty vinyl gown by Versace. Doja squeaked her way onto the Grammys in a one-shouldered mermaid vinyl gown with matching opera-length gloves (you all know I LIVE for a glove moment) and a SNATCHED waist.
Cardi B in custom Gaurav Gupta
Did anyone else’s jaw drop when you witnessed Cardi B emerging on the red carpet in this look? If yours didn’t, you’re lying. Cardi B was EVERYTHING in this mesmerizing, custom Gaurav Gupta gown styled by Kollin Carter. The icon swept onto the Grammys shore in a royal blue hooded structured gown with cut-outs and curves that hit in all the right places, Kollin finished the look with Messika jewels!
Adele in custom Louis Vuitton
Weekends with Adele are my favorite, especially when it’s an award show day and she blesses us all with her presence. Jaime Mizrahi styled Adele in this elegantly understated custom gown by Louis Vuitton with a structured ruffle neckline and statement jewelry by Tiffany & Co. Side note: I need Adele’s hair secrets because why is it ALWAYS perfection, as a Leo that is so important to me… Okay, back to the list because I’m about to cry since I’m currently balding due to stress.
Steve Lacy in custom Saint Laurent
I’ve recently become a fan of Steve Lacy, and one of the things that did it for me is the fact that he knows his fashion and knows how to dress. I Love that, kudos to him from a stylist’s standpoint! Steve Lacy showed out in a custom Saint Laurent suit adorned with a gorgeous diamond brooch, and even more gorgeous shoes (which I still can't figure out where they’re from!) The proportions were impeccable, Best dressed man of the night, hands down!
Harry Styles in EGONlab in collaboration with Swarovski
Harry made the Grammys’ red carpet his house (are we surprised?) styled by Harry Lambert. Jumpsuits, particularly this one, have become synonymous with Harry’s House-era looks; I wouldn’t have it any other way. He dazzled in this intentionally loose-fitted checkered jumpsuit by EGONlab x Swarovski. The jumpsuit featured a prominent square neckline, thick shoulder straps, and was entirely drenched in Swarovski crystals.
Anitta in Atelier Versace (from the archives, 2003)
Anitta keeps slaying the fashion game; the fiery Latina arrived at the Grammys for her first recording academy nomination styled by Ron Hartleben in this stunning archives gown by Atelier Versace. Worn previously only by Nicole Kidman for a Vogue cover shoot in 2003. The gown features a sweetheart strapless neckline, elaborate ruffles, and mesh lace details in a dramatic mermaid silhouette. A complete and utter SERVE.
Taylor Swift in custom Roberto Cavalli
Taylor and stylist Joseph Cassell Falconer’s version of the 2023 Grammys red carpet came in the form of this gorgeous 2-piece custom gown by Roberto Cavalli. The look featured a mock-neck long-sleeve crop top and matching skirt with intricate crystal embellishments, statement earrings by Lorraine Schwartz jewelry, and Giuseppe Zanotti shoes.
Camila Cabello in Pat Bo
Don’t go yet, I still have to talk about this look. There’s something to be said about Rob Zangardi masterfully understanding proportions and silhouette, and the look he styled Camila Cabello in shows us just that. Camila graced the Grammys in this stunning number from Pat Bo SS23 collection featuring a pearl bralette U-shaped empire waist gown with a slit for the gods, and cultured pearl jewelry from Mikimoto
Kacey Musgraves in Valentino
Color coordination for the win! Kacey Musgraves and stylist Erica Cloud ate at the Grammys red carpet in this refreshing fitted jumpsuit look with a matching ostrich feather cape and color-coordinated heels. Snaps all around!
Beyoncé in Gucci
I decided to leave this Queen last because she was stuck in traffic on the way to the Grammys and that’s iconic in itself. KJ Moody and Beyoncé cuffed it in this interesting number by Gucci. This is a look where a lot is going on, yet it all works harmoniously together! From the corsetted bodice, the cascading ruffle-flared, high-slit metallic leather skirt, those black leather opera-length gloves, and Lorraine Schwartz jewelry–the look just keeps giving! It’s hard to believe this is KJ Moody’s first Grammys, and wow, was it such an incredibly historic moment!
Honorable Mentions…
Before the reveal of my favorite of the night, I want to mention the artists that came so close to gracing my list: H.E.R. in Bach Mai styled by Wouri Vice, Shania Twain in Harris Reed styled by Chris Horan, Olivia Rodrigo in custom MiuMiu styled by Danielle Goldberg, Kelsea Ballerini in Prabal Gurung styled by Molly Dickson, Tems in custom Vivienne Westwood styled by Dunsin Wright, Måneskin in Gucci styled by Nicolò Cerioni, Dylan Mulvaney in Christian Siriano styled by Brad Goreski, and Saint Jhn in Margiela.
And The Grammy Goes To…
Drumroll, please…
My absolute favorite of the night was Cardi B. in Gaurav Gupta styled by the amazing Kollin Carter! And yes, I’m still trying to pick up my jaw from the floor since the moment she hit the carpet. On stage Cardi B. wore a gorgeous metal-work paillette dress with a coordinating hood that was a clear homage to the late and great Paco Rabanne. Just STUNNING work from these two artists! Now it’s time I hear from you, do you agree with my list and my favorite or do you not? Let me hear it down below or in my dm’s! Some of y’all love to slide up in there!
