The Best Dressed According to Anferne | Emmys 2022 / by Anferne Ortiz

The Emmys took place Monday night, and not to toot my own horn but, I’m happy to say I have watched some of the winning shows this year! You see, I tend to add so many shows to my watch list, and if I’m lucky I get to watch at least one show to completion! Am I alone in this or do you guys actually get to watch everything on your list successfully? If so, how do you do it? The night was a historical night for many including Goddess Zendaya, who won her second Emmy for ‘Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series’ making her the first black woman to do so, and the youngest two-time winner in the Television Academy’s history. We also saw content-creator now writer, producer, and actress Quinta Brunson win big for her show Abbott Elementary, Lizzo is halfway to an EGOT with her win for ‘Outstanding Competition Program’ for her show Watch Out For the Big Grrrls. And the best moment of the night was Sheryl Lee Ralph taking home her first Emmy for ‘Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series’, she sang and delivered a moving speech that taught us all to celebrate every single one of our wins and to never give up – not going to lie, I got emotional. This year’s Emmys made me so excited for the year to come with shows like House of the Dragon which, side note, can we talk about how damn good HOT D is? It’s my current obsession, come through Westeros! But I digress, the Emmys is one of the awards shows that officially start the season. And its fashion, for me, usually sets the tone for the award shows that follow! So without further ado, here are my best dressed of the Emmys 2022!

Zendaya in Valentino

Like I’ve said before, I. Live. For. Ballgowns. And Zendaya gave me EVERYTHING I needed and more in this showstopping number by Valentino. The gown featured a delicate sweetheart neckline, a centered trim with a bow that gave way to a split-front peplum hem, and a full ballgown skirt. To finish the look she made our eyes sparkle in Bvlgari jewels. Did you think that was it? Later on at the HBO Emmys post-awards show reception, she stunned in an off-the-shoulder red gown with a daring U-neckline and train. I’ll say it now, she can do no wrong. Of course, she was styled by the incomparable Law Roach. Law and his work are huge inspirations to me! I always look forward to seeing what these two besties do. Just like perfection, flawless. Needs no correction, flawless. Like no other, flawless. Absolutely, flawless.

Lizzo in Giambattista Valli

As I’ve stated before Lizzo makes the big girls (and gays) proud! She delivered in a dreamy fiery red tulle Giambattista Valli gown! The gown featured an off-the-shoulder neckline, bell sleeves, and a high-low skirt all fashioned from layers upon layers of gorgeous tulle fabric. Just fabulous, this one’s for the big grrrls!

Sydney Sweeney in Oscar de la Renta

Sydney has been one to watch (both on screen and on the red carpet), especially since Euphoria. She sure gave us a serve at the Emmys in this exquisite Oscar de la Renta gown with a scoop neckline, corset-structured bodice, and voluminous attached train adorned in gorgeous silver floral embroidery. The whole look gave me off-with-their-head realness!

Lily James in Atelier Versace

Lily James constantly gets it right on the red carpet and it was no different for this year's Emmys. Cinderella ATE in a bronze Atelier Versace gown with signature draping and corset-structured bodice in shimmering metal-mesh fabric. This silhouette is the perfect balance of sensuality and sophistication. She finished off the look with jewelry from De Beers Jewellers.

Amanda Seyfried in Armani Privé

When it comes to red carpet style there’s always a *checks moobs* 100% chance that Amanda Seyfried will be SLAYING. My fifth sense is always right because she graced the Emmys in an alluring Armani Privé gown with a pleated tulle detail at the neckline and multi-dimensional embellishments throughout the entirety of the gown. Mermaid conspiracy Tiktok should be using this as evidence!

Kerry Washington in Elie Saab Couture

Kerry Washington takes a spot on my list as well (as she should) with this romantic Elie Saab Couture mini gown complete with 3D floral appliques, asymmetrical styling, and gathered train detail, she also added black hosiery and scandalous (I’m so clever) Louboutins. To be honest, I can’t be mad at these choices because she looked absolutely fabulous!

Quinta Brunson in Dolce & Gabbana

Quintaaaaaaaaaaaaa, my darling you did that! Feelings about Dolce & Gabanna aside, Miss Quinta came to COLLECT her Emmys in a gorgeous gown that only the finest chocolatiers can dream of. The gown featured a corset-structured strapless bodice and an elegant draped skirt with a slit for some serious leg action because she can! She finished her look with tonal chocolate jewels and (my favorite) long sheer chocolate gloves. Euhhh! Get it all for her!

Selena Gomez in Celine

Understated elegance made an appearance at the Emmys as well. Selena Gomez arrived with minutes to spare in a simple yet elegant loose-fitted halter gown by Celine. The demured sequin gown and up-do played very well with the gorgeous statement emerald earrings she chose for the occasion. Leave it to Selena to be low-key and still arrive.

Nicholas Hoult in Dior

One of my favorite things about men’s red carpet fashion now, is how they are not afraid to break out of the classic black tux that we’ve seen since… well, the beginning of time (in Hollywood.) Nicholas Hoult opted for a debonair Dior suit decked out with their signature asymmetrical closure, paired with flared trousers, and finished the look with a diamond choker. The simple fit and proportions of this look – TOP TIER.

Jung Ho-Yeon in Louis Vuitton

Talk about a perfect blend of edginess and glam, Jung Ho-Yeon introduced her red carpet style by wearing an intricate sequin gown by Louis Vuitton. The gown featured a dainty scoop neckline with delicate straps, and a thigh-high slit, elaborated in colorful sequins alla plaid. What a knockout from the Squid Games actress (and model!)

Andrew Garfield in Zegna

As if we needed yet another reason to drool over Andrew Garfield. Daddy showed up to the Emmys in a light cream-colored Zegna suit with a tastefully unbuttoned matching dress shirt paired with black Louboutin shoes, a watch (because a gentleman that makes you want to forget about the time, always wears a nice watch), and… sunglasses. I don’t even care that I’ve said, wearing sunglasses on the red carpet is a choice, Andrew looks like he owns every yacht in Monaco and I am about to do everything I have to, to be his guest on ALL of them. And I’m not even ashamed of it.

Honorable Mentions…

Before the reveal, I want to say this list was so difficult to compile because so many celebrities brought their A-Game! So, I wanted to give some recognition to Jean Smart, Reese Witherspoon, Elle Fanning, Sarah Paulson, Himesh Patel, Britt Lower, Amy Poehler, Naz Perez, and Nicholas Braun who made it this close to gracing my list! Really lovely looks from all of them!

And The Emmy Goes To…

ZENDAYA in Valenino. No, I don’t think you understand… I’m obsessed. From the red carpet, to the stage, to the press room, to the post-show reception she served pure red carpet queen energy. I mean, I was very much taking in each moment like a slow-motion style reel that went viral on Tiktok… Yes, it was THAT good. Remember this is according to ME! But tell me, do you agree? Or better yet, who were your faves of the night? Chime in down in the comments, or as always – in my DMs!
